|
SEPTEMBER 2005 :
-
France : two engineers personaly decided to set up an online survey among Free (French's ISP) users (as well as among other ISP's users) in order to ask for the launch of a commercial IPv6 service offer for the mass-market.

AUGUST 2005 :
-
France : the French internet service provider Wanadoo tests its first IPv6 access service. The IPv6 tests is available only for Wanadoo customers who suscribed an ADSL eXtense service and who are using Windows XP SP2. These first tests will be divided into two parts: an "Access" part which aims at testing two transition technologies (Teredo and Tunnel Broker) enabling the encapsulation of an IPv6 connectivity up to the Wanadoo final user, and an "Access+Services" part which will be launched in September 2005.

Normandy : the Gonfreville-l'Orcher town equips itself of a unique development. Beginning in June 2005 and planned to be done by early 2007, this project aims at realizing native high-speed IPv6 infrastructures, enabling the evaluation -and then the validation- of a native IPv6 unfolding on the existing optical infrastructure in order to develop mobility between schools , libraries, the town's IT school and homes. In addition, this initiative will allow the realization of upcoming projects such as telesupervision of the town facing the potential chemical and petrol risks (ADSL Magazine - n°13 - June 2005 - p.10).
MAY 2005 :
-
France : French Minister of Industry, Patrick Devedjan, and Chinese Minister of Information Industry (MII), Wang Xudong, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), specifically on IPv6 collaboration to accelerate the industrialization of new applications and services for the new generation Internet.
The IPv6 MoU will cover the following areas for cooperation : Research, promotion and commercialization; New network architecture and equipment design; Equipment testing and standards; Best practices on deployment and business model; and Address allocation policies.
APRIL 2005 :
-
Rhône Alpes : IETF standardized the HMIPv6 (Hierarchical Mobile IPv6). This standard has been developped by PLANETE, the INRIA project of the Research Unit of Rhônes Alpes INRIA (Granoble, France - V. Roca). Hierarchical mobility management for Mobile IPv6 is designed to reduce the amount of signalling between the Mobile Node, its Correspondent Nodes and its Home Agent. The Mobility Anchor Point can also be used to improve the performance of Mobile IPv6 in terms of handover speed.

France : Collaboration between France and the USA for their defense networks transition to IPv6:
After several meetings held in February between an American delegation of the US Army and the DGA (represented by the SPOTI and the CELAR), the IPv6 Forum, the US Task Force and the French Task Force announced a collaboration between the French and the US Departments.
These two countries unfold quite similar strategies for the transition of their defense networks to IPv6. The goal of these meetings was to evaluate the possibility for setting up a collaboration in order to share experiences and define common choices. The effective collaboration setup has been decided.
