Point6 : Global objectives
|
IPv6 Internet technologies have been specified and standardized with an aim of meeting the needs generated by the strong growth of the Internet (particularly in Asia and South America) and by awaiting Internet services in emerging products of communication.
With functional additions, IPv4 technologies had been able to circumvent their initial technical limits in last few years, but now, it doesn't appear possible any more to delay the introduction of IPv6 into infrastructures and new projects.
Via national impulses, federating the authorities and large industrial actors, principal Asian countries defined and start to implement important action plans, intended to instigate the penetration of these technologies. The American Departement of Defense also took a significant initiative in mi2003, while deciding on an action plan which must lead in 2008 with the evolution in IPv6 of all the networks depending on American defense. Clearly these national impulses which result in concrete action plans have an effect of obvious drive on the market.
Using already existing competences in this field in Brittany (IRISA/INRIA, ENST Bretagne/GET, CELAR, different industrial) Point6 has the ambition to bring a support for the various public actors or industriels which wish it. Point6 could help these actors in progressive deployment of IPv6 Internet technologies in their networks which currently work very largely in IPv4, and/or in development of new applications which could draw part of IPv6 technologies, in very diverse fields such as mobile telephony and the personal assistants, house automation, car and intelligent transportation systems, or maybe in unspecified distributed industrial systems for which a better communication between the various parts is required in order to gain in effectiveness or reliability, of the new services of assistance to be brought to residence to the people to reduced capacities, etc.
